WASHINGTON/OTTAWA: A major trade war is brewing in North America. U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to impose a massive 100% tariff on all Canadian imports if Canada proceeds with a trade agreement with China.
The Warning Trump lashed out at Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, accusing him of trying to make Canada a “Drop Off Port” for Chinese factories to bypass U.S. sanctions. “China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it,” Trump stated on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Why is Trump Angry? The warning follows reports that Canada is softening its stance on Chinese imports. Canada recently agreed to lower tariffs on Chinese Electric Vehicles (EVs) and expand agricultural exports to Beijing. Trump views this as a betrayal that undermines U.S. efforts to block cheap Chinese goods from flooding the market.
