Board official clarifies that no discussions have taken place regarding moving games out of India during the ongoing ICC meetings.
NEW DELHI/DUBAI (January 15, 2026) – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially put an end to the speculation surrounding the venue of Bangladesh’s matches for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Amid reports that the team’s games might be shifted out of India due to diplomatic or security reasons, the board has asserted that no such plan is on the table.
The clarification came on the sidelines of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) quarterly meetings. A senior BCCI official told reporters that the schedule remains intact. “There has been no discussion with the ICC or the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding a change in venue. Bangladesh will play their allotted matches in India as planned,” the official stated.
Rumors had gained momentum earlier this week suggesting that Bangladesh’s group stage games might be moved to co-host Sri Lanka to avoid potential security hurdles. The 2026 edition is being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, and the BCCI’s statement ensures that the original itinerary stands approved.
