Middle East Crisis: Israel Hits Syria-Lebanon Border

Beirut: Tensions in the Middle East reached a new peak today as Israel expanded its air campaign. On Thursday, January 22, 2026, Israeli Air Force jets targeted and disabled four border crossings connecting Lebanon with Syria.

The strikes are part of a broader effort to choke off support for Hezbollah. Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that they will not tolerate the transfer of advanced weaponry across these borders. The destruction of these roads effectively isolates parts of Lebanon from its eastern neighbor.

In a separate but related development, two people were killed in airstrikes in Southern Lebanon today. The region has seen daily exchanges of fire, but targeting border infrastructure represents a strategic escalation.

For India and the global community, the concern is that this widening theater of war could draw Syrian forces or other regional proxies further into the conflict, destabilizing the entire Levant region.
