SYRIA: A countdown to potential conflict has begun in Syria. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are facing their toughest test yet as a ceasefire deadline rapidly approaches.
The Demand: The Syrian government, backed by Russian mediators, has issued a clear directive: the SDF must integrate its fighters into the official Syrian Army. This would mean the end of the SDF’s independent control over Northeast Syria.
Risks of Failure: If the SDF refuses, the protection provided by the current ceasefire could vanish, leaving them exposed to attacks from both Turkish forces and the Syrian regime. Military mobilization has already been reported near the contact lines.
