WASHINGTON (January 17, 2026) – US President Donald Trump has officially announced the formation of the “Gaza Board of Peace,” a high-level international body designed to oversee the reconstruction and long-term stabilization of the Gaza Strip. In a statement released late Friday, Trump named his son-in-law and former senior advisor, Jared Kushner, alongside former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to lead the initiative.
The Board is tasked with coordinating global funding, managing infrastructure projects, and establishing security protocols to ensure aid reaches civilians. “Jared and Tony are the best dealmakers in the world. They will bring prosperity and safety to a region that has seen too much sorrow,” Trump said in a press briefing.
The appointment marks a return to the spotlight for Kushner, the architect of the Abraham Accords during Trump’s first term. Tony Blair, having previously served as the special envoy for the Middle East Quartet, brings decades of diplomatic experience to the role. The Board is expected to convene its first meeting in Cairo next week.
